Three Lions Sputtering

Steve McClaren World Class? As a Yank watching things from this side of the pond it's funny to see how surprised so many English folks are over the performance of the national team. While Boro weren't a big club, they weren't stingy with their money either. McClaren had enough resources to build a good team. In the end he turned them into relegation contenders. No one should be surprised that England is struggling as much as they are. McClaren's a decent coach. But if England wanted just a decent coach, they should've opened up some all-you-can-eat buffets in London and got Bruce Arena on the cheap.

McClueless is a joke. Playing 3-5-2 is not the english way, and if we are to play that we have to be well drilled. The players who ame on due to the dire performance are all subs at man utd, chelsea.

in a perverse way i just laugh when they lose (im english) but the london media piss me off so much.

all this 'one of the best teams in the world' crap pisses me off, average players such as cole should count themselves very lucky driving theor porsches. bring back pearce and co!!!

Thanks for the comments. I don't think the 3-5-2 is a bad formation. But as you point out, the players aren't used to it.

I think the FA was saying in choosing Sven's long time assistant that they didn't think the national team needed much change to do well. I think that was wrong. And as you pointed out, having McClaren doing some of the things he does just makes things worse. England isn't full of world class players. But they have the talent that with a good manager they shoudl be able to make a nice run in Euro08.

yeahallen, i think you are essentially right.

the FA has always been a very conservative organisation, in that they havent appointed the best man for the job, and have the ostrich-esque burying of heads in sand. middlesboro s fairly local to me, soi get to know what some of the supporters were saying about mclaren, i think he lacks what someone like scolari or hiddink could have goven the job.
