Glenn "Mooch" Myernick

Rest In Peace It was announced that 51 year old Glenn "Mooch" Myernick passed away this morning. He worked as one of Burce Arena's assistants with US Mens National Team and is credited with scouting Portugal and being a key part of the tactics that lead to the US' famous 3-2 win over Portugal in the world cup. He also coach the US U-23s, US Olympic Team, the Colorado Rapids and other teams. He is survived by his wife and 2 children. May the perpetual light shine upon him. Another blog entry on Mooch's passing can be found at College To Pros : http://collegetopros.blogspot.com/

FROM GEORGE AT FC ROCKY:
It's funny. Before the World Cup, I thought Mooch had a good shot at being the next coach of the U.S. men's national team. But after the team's performance in Germany was so resoundingly panned (albeit incorrectly, I believe), I realized there was no way he would emerge immediately out of Bruce Arena's shadow. Maybe two or three openings down the road, but not immediately after Bruce. U.S. Soccer wouldn't replace Bruce with Bruce's right-hand man if they wanted the appearance of change.
Mooch's death is a shame on many levels, but the men's national team has lost a fine resource of knowledge of the game and a potential head coach.
