The Beckhams : Sex Shop Shopping English Children Role Models

You gotta love todays headlines involving Mr. and Mrs. Posh. One article talks about how Victoria and David went to a sex shop in Hollywood. And the other talks about a study in Britain that says David and Victoria are top role models for school children in England. Does this mean the English have finally given up their Victorian ways?

Capello For England

It looks like it's just a matter of dotting some I's and crossing some T's and Fabio Capello will be the next coach for he English national team. It's hard to see any problems with this appointment at this time.

Nevertheless it leaves me wondering if any of the members of the FA board have taken responsibility for things coming to this. After Sven's tenure was done, they got their panties in a bunch over appointing an English coach. And at that they decided upon a coach, Steve McClaren whose performance at Middlesbrough was at best average. That should have been evident before the board decided to hire him.

Worse there were moments like this one [link] where McClaren may have been making excuses for his inability to take a very talented group of players and get them to qualify. Not necessarily win every game or even place first in the group but surely there was enough talent, experience and know-how in the squad to get England to qualify for Euro08.

What's the point? Why haven't any heads on the board rolled? Or at least why haven't they shown that they've learned from their mistake of approving McClaren and are better for it? I don't question that Capello is a good choice. Fabio is a wonderful choice for the job. But at this point you have to wonder if they're doing it because of the quality he brings to the job or simply that they're going for a big name to distract from their inability to judge quality.

Penis Humor

This one is from the Euro08 qualifiers a couple weeks ago when England crashed out after losing to Croatia at home. As you know, they sing the national anthems before the game. Props to Who At All The Pies for catching this one. http://www.whoateallthepies.tv/2007/11/croatian_nation.html Instead of singing 'Mila kuda si planina' ('You know my dear how we love your mountains'), he sang 'Mila kura si planina', which translates as 'My dear, my penis is a mountain'. Immediately after Henry sung the line, a few Croatian players started grinning, as well as the team's child mascots.

England Fail; McClaren Given The Boot

If you didn't already know, England lost to Croatia 3-2. It was their last chance to qualify for Euro 2008 next summer. England's coach Steve McClaren has now been given the boot and is unemployed. Don't worry about him though. I'm sure Russia's coach Gus Hiddink will be sending him a nice Christmas gift to show his thanks. England's loss was Russia's gain as they qualified for Euro08.

As I've said before, I just don't understand why England hired McClaren in the first place.

The Last Time Crouch Scored Against Arsenal

The last time Crouch scored against Arsenal, it was for Southampton at St. Mary's. Prutton and Van Persie were sent off that day. Crouch scored in the 67th to tie the game at 1-1. He didn't score the next two times he faced them but today he scored a hat trick. Knowing the English press, this will be fuel for the debate over him play for the English national team. Seems more like it adds to the question if he's the next Emile Heskey.

Woodgate Injured Again

Sky is reporting that Woodgate won't be available for the upcoming Israel match due to a knee injury. I was curious how things were going for him in terms of injuries. He's definitely had some injury problems. His loan with Middlesbrough's brought some better luck on that front with 23 appearances so far this year. But previous to that in his 2 years at Real Madrid he only got in 9 league appearances. Before that his year and half he spent at Newcastle he got in 28 games. It doesn't look like it's time to start calling him Sick Note II.... at least not yet.

Beckham Will Walk On Water

At least that's what David Beckham says he would do for England. Technically he didn't say he would walk on water, just walk. But surely Mr. Posh isn't so daft as to realize that England's an island and that in between North America and England that walking will be on water, not land.
